2024 began with a fascinating and unexpected commission - to produce a companion painting to an oil study of hyacinths and hyacinth vases executed over ten years before. There were new opportunities as the number of bulbs grown and displayed annually in a beautiful Victorian house had expanded - as had the immensely varied array of glass vases. The richness of colour available in both plants and vessels and the new possibilities for shape and texture were a delight. The final challenge of producing a distinctly different but compatible artwork made for a stimulating and pleasurable experience in early February.
